Getting a good photo of the moon can be challenging.

There are a variety of techniques to get good results in photographing the moon, we will provide one such technique.

First, you will need the following equipment:

  • Camera with the ability to control exposure time

  • Telephoto/zoom lens

  • Camera tripod

  • Optional: computer with Photoshop

In photographing any distance, you have two things working against you:

  • the further you zoom, the greater any movement in camera affects the outcome of the photograph

  • photographs are affected by the atmosphere between the camera and the object being photographed

Affix your camera to the tripod.

Many of todays camera's usually have a Scene or Mode that include fireworks or astronomy modes - if you are fortunate enough to have such a camera - enable that setting and you are mostly done.

The higher you set your ISO, the more noise you will receive.

The longer your exposure, the more you will be affected by the moon's movement across the sky.

Clean up and crop your photographs using Photoshop and a good filter.
